Do you enjoy Tic Tac Toe? neither did we.
Tic-Tac-Toe is probably the most boring game ever made!
That was what we, the two founders of Pastille, a Swedish game studio, said to each other while commuting on the train.
Then we started to think about the reason for it being boring and how to reinvent it, as an exercise to get good game design. Then it went from a casual discussion of what would be needed to make it fun, to paper sketches and finally a year later to a really awesome game (in our humble opinion). Fredrik made a lot of cool visuals for it. We test-played it with our friends, our kids and total strangers, until we got it just right. Nine boards instead of one. And what if a draw isn’t a bad thing but a good thing? Can we use the game play to create music? 3 x 3 squares - that can be a waltz, right? The play-field is not only a play-field, it is also a step-sequencer!
With Matthias eager and ready to upload to App Store and Google Play, we realised that… there are A LOT of Tic-Tac-Toe clones out there. We didn’t do that one right, at all, did we? No research, no marketing strategy, no nothing. We renamed it from there times three in a row to Bill-Ball-Boll, since it sounds similar and familiar and then we made up a story for it.
Ad-free and no in-app purchases.
